  1. Tubing – Tubing is a great way to have a good time on the slopes but not have to worry about that lift ticket.  Check out the Colorado Adventure Park
  2. Snowshoe – If you’ve ever seen Snowshoes in movies, we can tell you they are a fun way to explore the area.  Trails that are groomed and easy for all to enjoy at the YMCA of the Rockies
  3. Ice Skating – There are several different locations around Winter Park where you can go lace up some skates and glide around that rink.  Get more information on where to enjoy this outdoor adventure.
  4. Snowmobile Fun – Another great option where your family can enjoy a little adventure is trying out snowmobiling.  Most trails are located near Grand Lake – a short scenic drive away but worth it for the magnificent mountain views.  
  5. Sleigh Rides – Just like the song lyrics “Dashing through the snow,” you will be able to do the same. Several locations around Winter Park will allow your family to experience a sleigh ride like no other.
  6. Cross-Country Skiing – If you have your heart set on skiing, then give Cross-Country skiing a try. You will still be able to ski without having a lift ticket to the top of the mountain and enjoy an experience without waiting in lift lines and the peace and quiet of the national forest.
  7. Bowling – Why not? Get out of the cold for a bit and head indoors for a friendly game or two of bowling.  Reservations are required for The Foundry in Winter Park.
  8. Fat Biking – This is an activity that everyone will love! You can go biking on the snow using bikes that have fat tires.  Explore nearby trails in the forest or at Devil’s Thumb Ranch.
  9. Winter Horseback Riding – Enjoy a great summer activity in the winter – same fun but a different view in the forest.  Family friendly with children’s pony rides to go along with the adult trail rides.

  2. White Water Rafting – White Water Rafting is something that the whole family can do together as you go on a new adventure down the river.  Mad Adventures is our local company for the best action on the water – just check out the pictures! 
  3. Golf – If you have someone in the family who loves to play golf, then have no fear as you can golf while having beautiful views in the background! There are 4 courses within 40 minutes of your Stay Winter Park accommodations.  
  4. Horseback Riding – Think of the memories you will have when you explore Winter Park on a western horseback adventure.  Rusty Spurr Ranch offers an authentic western experience for mild to wild. Another activity that gets you close to the western adventure is local Saturday night rodeos – BBQ dinner, mutton bustin and the main features of roping, buckin broncos and bulls.

Race along 600 feet of cord for the ultimate thrill! Tickets are ten dollars in addition to the price of a day pass and you must book 24 hours in advance. Where to Experience Winter Park Fishing

1. Fraser River

The Fraser River is one of the top fishing spots in the region. It’s the first main tributary of the Colorado River and is fairly flat, with riffles, runs and tailouts connected to deep pools. A completely wild fishery, the river is home to some big fish that average 12 to 15 inches. Public access is available along the Fraser Canyon and right behind the Safeway supermarket in Fraser.

2. Granby Ranch

Another great place to go fishing near Winter Park is Granby Ranch. This resort boasts a gold-medal tributary on three private miles of the Fraser River. Here, anglers can catch brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout in a scenic and serene setting. Fishing is free for guests of the resort, and fisherman staying elsewhere must pay a rod fee at Headwaters Golf Course pro shop. Guided fishing charters are also available.

3. Vasquez Creek

For anglers seeking an intimate, small-stream fishing experience, Vasquez Creek is an ideal destination. This creek provides a nice escape from the crowds and offers opportunities to catch various species of trout depending on how far upriver you are. Keep in mind that the South Fork of Upper Vasquez Creek and Little Vasquez Creek are fly/lure only; all cutthroat must be released.

Local Tip: Check out Muddy Creek, Willow Creek or St. Louis Creek for even more fly-fishing fun!

4. Lake Granby

Lake Granby is the third largest body of water in Colorado and is one of the best fishing areas near Winter Park. The lake offers 40 miles of pristine shoreline as well as two sister lakes: Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake. Best of all, it’s continually stocked with trout and kokanee salmon, keeping anglers busy all season long, Lake Granby, Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake offer some of the best fishing in Grand County and are known for their trophy-worthy trout. Feel free to rent a pontoon or sign up for a guided fishing tour at Beacon Landing Marina. Rod rentals, equipment, supplies and boat rentals are also available at other marinas around the lakes including Trail Ridge Marina and Highland Marina.

In the winter, anglers can try their hand at ice fishing on all three lakes once the waters freeze over. The Three Lakes Ice Fishing Contest takes place annually at these lakes, attracting hundreds of anglers as well as tourists.

Colorado Fishing License and Regulations

Anyone age 16 years or older must purchase a fishing license to fish or take fish from Colorado waters. Those under 16 can take a full bag and possession limit without a license. Colorado residents age 64 and older can purchase a fishing license for $1. Everyone, including youth, are required to have a second-rod stamp if fishing with a second line. One-day fishing license are available for residents and non-residents. Colorado fishing licenses can be purchased online or in-person at an agent.

Trestle Bike Park

Situated in the heart of Winter Park, Trestle Bike Park is a full-service bike park that features over 40 miles of gravity-fed dirt. Here you’ll find freeride, technical and cross-country trails for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. The park boasts the largest rental fleet in the country. All you have to do is show up and get ready for some fun! The park opens from late May through September.

Some of the best mountain biking trails are located within Trestle Bike Park. For the most experienced riders, the Banana Peel has demanding technical and slopestyle features to boost your adrenaline levels. Navigate extreme drops and gaps on this freeride, Signature Pro Line trail which requires a separate pass to access. The Trestle Downhill is another short but challenging ride at 1.4 miles long. It is one of the steepest trails in Trestle Bike Park and features difficult rock gardens for experienced riders only. Choose from a variety of learning programs such as private coaching or multi-day camps to ramp up your skills or receive a basic introduction to mountain biking. Trestle Bike Park offers many opportunities to work with experienced coaches seven days a week.

Each July, Trestle Bike Park hosts the Colorado Freeride Festival. This event is a must-see for mountain bikers and showcases athletes from all over the world. Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area!

Granby Ranch Bike Park

Visitors who choose to bike Granby Ranch won’t be disappointed. The ranch is located among Winter Park, Arapaho National Forest and Rocky Mountain National Park, offering everything from unmarked singletrack paths to dirt roads. Experienced mountain bikers will love the downhill course with its black and double-black diamond trails featuring rock gardens, gap jumps and more. If you’re a beginner, opt for an easier cross-country trail and focus on honing your skills. The options are endless! The trails are open from late May through September.

For beginners, consider the Bee Line trail with smooth terrain and minimal obstacles – also well-suited for families. For a little more challenge, try the Strawberry Jam trail, rated as beginner/intermediate. Here, riders can work on their bike handling skills and navigate different features including berms and rollers. And on the opposite side of the spectrum, Stranger and Bucknasty are some of the most difficult trails in the park, rated as double-black diamonds.

Granby Ranch also offers lessons taught by mountain biking pros. Riders can learn the basics or refine their skills with tailored lessons.

Fraser River Trail

The Fraser River Trail is a cross-country mountain biking trail perfect for beginners, families or those looking for a less demanding ride. The 5-mile trail has minimal elevation gain and is paved all the way from Fraser to Winter Park Resort. This is a scenic trail with picnic tables, benches and educational signs along the way. Riders can start and stop on the trail at any point. Pack a lunch and enjoy the beautiful views of the Fraser River Valley and surrounding mountains.

Traveling from Denver to Winter Park is easy when you board the Winter Park Express! The train departs Denver Union Station every Saturday and Sunday from January 5th to March 25th, 2018. Passengers take a scenic ride through some of Colorado’s most beautiful landscapes before arriving at the base of Winter Park Resort. Check out the schedule below and be sure to buy your tickets early.

What You’ll See at the Wells Fargo Ski Cup This Year

If skiing is your winter sport of choice, you’re probably familiar with the Wells Fargo Ski Cup. This exciting annual event takes place in Winter Park, Colorado, and is the longest-running professional ski race in the country. The Cup also serves as a fundraiser for the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), an organization that supports therapeutic recreation for children and adults with disabilities. Your Guide to the 2018 Wells Fargo Ski Cup

Friday, 2/23

Now in its 43rd consecutive year, the Wells Fargo Ski Cup brings together the world’s top skiers with disabilities, amateur skiers, snowboarders, and Denver celebrities. The weekend kicks off on Friday as racers arrive at Winter Park Resort. They’ll take their qualifying runs, participate in a racer clinic, and learn racing techniques from NSCD staff and coaches. Guests are welcome to watch the action from the slopes.

Saturday 2/24

Head back to the resort on Saturday for the Corporate Challenge, the highlight of Ski Cup Weekend. Cheer on your favorite skiers as they rocket down the slopes on monoskis. Teams are randomly grouped into heats and the top three move on to the finals. The NSCD athlete on each of the top teams wins a cash prize to finance their training for the 2018 Paralympics.

Local Tip: Be sure to stick around for the apres-ski bash, awards ceremony, and night tubing!

Sunday, 2/25

Don’t miss the Kid’s Snowplow Sprint on Sunday! It’s a wonderful event that allows children of Wells Fargo Ski Cup guests to race the same course as the professionals. They’ll even be joined by mascots from Winter Park and Colorado sports teams. Capping off the weekend is the Sarah Holm Memorial World Disabled Invitational where professional athletes from around the world compete for cash prizes.
