Grand County provides some of the best mountain biking opportunities in Colorado. From heart-pumping uphill climbs and exhilarating single-track downhills to leisurely double-track trails through the forest, the Fraser Valley and Winter Park Resort have it all when it comes to mountain biking. The mountain bike options become seemingly endless when adding in the voluminous trails at Granby Ranch, Snow Mountain Ranch and in the National Forest around Granby, Grand Lake and Kremmling.

Bike Rentals in Winter Park

Beaver Sports Shop is the most complete bike shop in the Winter Park area.

Beaver Sports stocks retail bikes, as well as a full line of rental bikes including high-end mountain bikes. Beaver Sports also stocks a full line of accessories and clothing. Beaver Sports has the most complete inventory of parts should anyone need any service while they are here. They do everything possible to fix all bikes the same day they arrive or overnight when needed.

Beaver Sports Shop holds the only permit in the area to do guided rides and skills clinics. This is a great way to learn the trail system and improve your riding.

Every Friday at 6 pm Beaver Sports has a group mountain bike ride for the intermediate and beyond skill level. This is the only group ride open to the public in this area.

Beaver Sports offers 20% off to Stay Winter Park guests for bike rentals. Stay Winter Park suggests that anyone needing a bike to reserve that bike in advance as supply is limited. Unfortunately, Beaver Sports doesn’t do online reservations for the bikes, but anyone can make a bike reservation by calling 970-887-2554 or 888-234-6259.

Beaver Sports Shop is the only bike shop in Winter Park that is a member of the International Mountain Bike Association and Grand Mountain Bike Alliance (local bike advocacy group).

Mountain Biking in Winter Park

The mountain bike trail system in Winter Park and the Fraser Valley has been called the best anywhere. The valley floor is very open and fairly level, and the mountains gradually rise above the valley. This allows mountain bikers of all abilities to enjoy themselves at their level and pace.

This area saw a great amount of activity during the earlier part of the century due to logging and railroads. These industries left behind countless miles of old roads and trails, which are perfectly suited for mountain biking. The base for the Fraser Valley mountain bike trail system evolved from these industries.

Novice, recreational and expert riders alike can appreciate Winter Park Resort’s 50 miles of varied terrain across a 7,600-acre permit. To get to the top of the slopes, riders can jump on the Zephyr Express chairlift which is specially equipped to carry bikes. Once on the mountain, bikers can choose from a variety of green, blue and black trails. Like ski trails, bike trails are rated in difficulty by color. The Winter Park Resort trails are unique because they link with the Fraser Valley’s vast 600-mile trail system, the heart of mountain biking in the area. The trails consist of mapped and marked trails of all types. No car shuttling is necessary, as trailheads are located in the towns of Winter Park and Fraser as well as Winter Park Resort.

Trails wind through fields of wildflowers or the tops of mountains with breathtaking views, or through majestic woods.

Hundreds of additional miles of mountain biking trails can be found all over Grand County. It’s no wonder we’re called “Mountain Bike Capital, USA.”™
