Winter Park has an interesting history that you might not know about. It was founded in 1922 by the Graves family as a logging site. Then in 1928, the Moffat Tunnel was built, and is still in use today for rail transport from Denver's Union Station (book your trip on the Winter Park Express) and other rail services. Soon after, cabins started popping up for hunters and local workers and was originally named Hideaway Park. While the town officially became incorporated in 1978, the Winter Park ski resort opened back in 1940 as a city park for Denver. Fast forward to now, and the area and resort has transformed into a top-notch destination.

In 1881, a general store and a big ranch called Kinsey City kicked off the settlement. It officially became a town in 1904 and by 1912 the Middle Park Fair was launched, adding a traditional western vibe to the area.
