From Mail Carriers and Midwives to Bums and Bunnies, The Grand Evolution of Skiing

This Sunday, February 27, Cozens Ranch Museum invites you to an apres ski party to celebrate the new ski history exhibit on display at the museum.

The ski exhibit, titled "From Mail Carriers and Midwives to Bums and Bunnies, The Grand Evolution of Skiing," will be on display at the museum February 27, 2011 through April 2012.

The event, with snacks and drinks donated by local restaurants, will begin apres ski (or 3:30pm) and guests are encouraged to wander the museum, share stories of skiing past, and dress to impress in their best 'back-of-the-closet' old school ski gear!

Beginning with the first Hot Sulphur Springs Winter Carnival in 1911, the ski exhibit offers a look at the unique history of skiing in Grand County over the past 100 years. Witness the design evolution of skis and snowboards, over 80 years of gear (from the 1920's to the 2000's) from wooden planks with leather straps to twin-tip cambers, see how the construction, design, and technology of skis and snowboards has - and hasn't - changed over the years.

The exhibit also examines ski clothing style throughout the years, and provides a better understanding of the meaning behind ski slang like "shred the gnar." Plus, learn about the first backyard ski jumps, skiing to survive in the Rockies, and check out the map of Grand County's past and present ski areas.

Join them for this special event honoring our community's rich ski history and the new ski exhibit at Cozens Ranch Museum, explore the museum, munch on finger food from your favorite spots in town, and share your own exciting ski stories from last week or decades ago.

Experience over 100 years of ski history and support your local Grand County historical museum. A $5.00 suggested donation is encouraged to offset exhibit creation and advertising costs.
